Fuerte trip

After a cold and long winter in Holland we dicided to go for a 10 days trip to Fuerteventura.
Bouke (Witchcraft) told me earlier that Fuerte is the place to be for the winterperiod.
It's a 4 hours fly, lot's of spots in a 30 min drive, side off wind and plentyof spots to surf when the wind is off.

He was right! Fuerte is the bomb!!

It seems like the coldest part of the winter is over. February starts with a stormy south wester and 10 degrees. Three days with 3.8 and one day with 4.3. The first day i was on the water with a 68 L SOS Fish and the other three days i took the 83 L Witchcraft tri-fin. Damn.... this board rocks.... even in stormy conditions it's easy to handle!

Morocco trip

In the summertime the Morocci coast is next to POZO the place to be because ofhis highwinds. The plan was to stay there for 10 days and have a maximum surf.

Next to the great surf,Morocco hase a lot more......... Yes.... culture!!

We arrived the 22th of July at Marracesh. The evening we spend at the big plaza where you good eat with the local population.

Marracesh is famous about his small alley's and picturesque hotels.

The day after we arrived we drove to the coast. It was a three hours drive true the dessert where we past primitive villages of the Shepherds.

The destanation was Essaouira. It's a fishing-village whit a big history. After a big lunch at the beach we notice that the wind is pikking up...so

we drove to the spot called Moulay Bouzerktoun. It's the homespot of Boujmaa and it's a very small pour village.

The wind was good for a 4.3 Smack and Witchcraft 77 L. The waves where not that high but enough for a lot of fun!

After a hour of good windsurf, Axel dicide to take some pictures. We switched after 30 min and Axel went out.... The first wave he takes was immediately the final wave of the trip. The result was a dislocated arm. Damn....

After a 4 hours stay in the local filthy hospital the arm was back on his place but for Axel it was done!
The forecast for the rest of the trip was also bad. We only had one day to look out for and then the wind switched off after a three weeks blowing.
Fortunately there were some small waves and we had some surfsessions at Sidi Kaouki.

After some small surfing and site seeing we decided to go home. Axel his arm was hurting like mad and the conditions looks #@%#$

The trip to South Africa brought me some nice shots. The same day when the picture was taken of the huge aerial, I sended the shot to the Dutch Surfmagazine. You never know......

A few weeks ago, I e-maild Stefen of the Dutch Surfmagazine..... And yes!

He told me that he was going to place the shot in magazine #2

After a long winter, finally the time was there to go on the water. Wednesday the 31th of March was a day with a strong side off wind. Fortunately we had some windswell this day.... The shot above was make by Edwin van Santen at the end of my first session this day. Later the day the wind turned to side shore what makes the conditions a bit bumpy but still oke.

While the most windsurfers stay high in the bay or even on the beach, a couple of guys (incl. me) where riding the big clean waves just in front of the rocks. The pictures speak on there own....

Blue water, clean waves and white beaches...... paradise!

A day after the long flight from Dusseldorf to Cape Town the northwester starts to blow. Normal the southeaster is the wind for the cape but when the northwester pass by you can expect epic conditions at Witsands. The wind is blowing site off between two hills so the conditions are very gusty and it's very hard to get out.

Capetown is on Fire! This month Capetown is hit by huge waves. While most of the windsurfers stay safe on the beach a couple of die hards defy the monster waves.
Hopefully the month february gives me the same conditions ....... ;-)

Holland still going off(shore)

The past three weeks we had non-stop wind. Side-, side-on-, side-offshore wind. There were a couple of days with side-off and nice swell. Sometimes really special days along the Dutch coast.

Unfortunately the last day of the non-stop windperiod, i couldn't go on the water. That day was the proof of the pudding! 25-30 knots of side-off wind and clean 2 meter hollow waves.

The wind died but the swell was still going strong. The bomb came in the day after a non-stop wind period and the waves along the Dutch coast were really unDutch!

Wednesday the 18th of november: Backloop with 50 knots

outstanding because of the side of wind and swell

The first storm in October is a fact. Saturday the 3th brought us 30-50 knots of wind. The smallest sail (3.8 m2) was sometimes to big. The pictures of the pushloop were made by Mark Welagen (Klatser.com) during The Naish Wave Challenge.

The forecast where 30 knots from the north and 3,5 m waves. The 16th of October was one of the better days this year. Endless waveriding makes it a non forgetible day!

Wat een laf dagje voorspelde te worden.....

Op verschillende windsites stond al enkele dagen aangegeven dat het donderdag 30 juli wel eens flink kon gaan wapperen. Na een windloze periode werd surfend Nederland weer onrustig. Naarmate de dag steeds dichterbij kwam, zag het er naar uit dat de wind 's morgens het beste door zou gaan komen. Tja.... een gewone doordeweekse dag dus een aantal onder ons moesten al afhaken omdat de baas het niet toe zou laten. Wat ben ik in zo'n geval blij omambtenaar te zijn.... hahahaha!

We besloten donderdagochtend vroeg op Wijk te gaan verzamelen. De richting leek niet erg top te gaan worden, draaiend van west naar westzuidwest. Eenmaal op Wijk aangekomen en de pier oprijdend zag het er niet super spectaculair uit maar het waaide. Genoeg voor mijn 4.3 Smack en Witchcraft 77. Wanneer je 's morgens 07:30 uur op staat te tuigen met z'n vijven, de zon begint te schijnen en de golfjes beginnen te lopen dan realiseer je je dat het wel eens best mooi kan gaan worden. Dat werd het ook...... De eerste uren leek het wel of we op een spot als Pozo aan het varen waren en waande we ons op vakantie.

Naarmate de ochtend vorderde en het vloed werd, verschenen er steeds meer plankzeilers, surfers en kiters op het water. Helaas werd het toen erg druk maar we mochten niet klagen.

Na zo'n 3,5 uur varen besloot ik moe maar voldaan te stoppen en maar eens wat foto's van de pier te gaan schieten alvorens naar mijn werk te rijden. Tijdens het fotograferen, kwam The Lamp naar me toe met de vraag of ik zin had om nog even een avondsessie op Scheveningen te doen...... pffff ik was kapot en moest werken. Nou ja... werken had ik ook al geen zin meer in dus na een kort belletje richting de baas besloten we langzaam naar Scheveningen te rijden alwaar we de dag met een twee uur durende avondsessie met side-of wind afsloten.

Wat een laf dagje voorspelde te worden, werd uiteindelijk een topdag! Westzuidwesten wind is zo slecht nog niet!
